Question about what meds worked best for you for OCD symptoms/anxiety without sexual side effects?
I’m suspecting I might have be showing some OCD symptoms. I don’t rearrange things or wash my hands repeatedly or anything like that. Recently I learned that some people with OCD don’t act out those rituals. I have extremely UNWANTED morbid thoughts and worries to the extreme. It keeps me from feeling like a normal person….and that’s an understatement.
I also have dealt with anxiety and I just don’t feel like a normal person. On the outside looking into my life, people would think I have it all…but I don’t. My inner self is hurting.
What med combination would help me with severe anxiety, OCD, without sexual side effects? I’ve heard if you add Wellbutrin in the mix, it negates the sexual side effects of the other medications. Is this true?
What has worked for you. I’ve tried quite a few, and I mean quite a few different drugs. I’m thinking of trying Klonipin. Anyone have an experience with that? What is the strongest OCD medicine out there? Not any ole antidepressant will do. TY

I know someone who had quite a bit of success with Luvox (which is an antidepressant). But, everyone is different and any medication should be used in conjunction with therapy. I have found a very good book on OCD and the author actually responded to an email I had sent. The book is Obsessive Compulsive Disorders a complete guide to getting well and staying well by Fred Penzel PHD.
Good luck and take care of yourself
I’ve heard Paxil is good for treating OCD. I took it for depression/anxiety and it helped me somewhat for awhile but then it stopped working. I didn’t have a whole lot of sexual side effects, but I did gain 40 lbs. It’s one of the medications that are likely to cause people to gain weight (most antidepressants cause weight gain, but Paxil seems to do it even more so). My husband took Paxil for anxiety at one point and he had sexual side effects so he stopped taking it. Different mediciations are going to react differently in different people. Just depends on your body chemistry as to how your body will handle the drug. Paxil might help your anxiety and not cause you any problems.
As for Wellbutrin, I haven’t heard that it negates sexual side effects from other meds; however, I’ve heard by itself it does not have sexual side effects and is recommended for people who want to keep their sex drive…and who doesn’t?
I took Klonopin for a couple weeks. It really helped me with anxiety…I felt really calm and relaxed, but I started having delusions on it, so I had to quit taking it immediately. I would recommend Klonopin…it is a good med. My doctor said that delusions is a side effect that occurs in a very very small percentage of the population who take Klonopin, and I just happened to be one of the unlucky ones who experienced that side effect.
Hope this helps.
Search for "Intrusive Thoughts." That’s a symptom of OCD that many people have but dont know there’s a name for it. I have them, and it sounds like you have them as well.
