Panic/anxiety attacks…. Stroke related? Symptoms of strokes/depression?
I’ve had panic/anxiety attacks since Sept. 07. It started after my dad died, and I went to a counselor once. It helped me for about a week, and then the attacks came back.
I had a minor stroke about a month and a half ago, and my anxiety attacks have never been this bad. I’ve been having these really weird feelings, and it’s hard to explain. When I was reading about strokes online, one website said that depression can happen after having a stroke. And now, I’ve found this website… http://www.natural-herbal-remedies.net/anxiety.html
Where it says "* About 80 percent of depressed people suffer psychological symptoms: unrealistic apprehension, fears, worry, aggitation, irritability, or a panic attack." I’ve realized that I’ve had every single one of these symptoms. The "unrealistic apprehension" thing is the weirdest, scariest feeling I’ve ever felt.
So my question goes out to the psych’s out there…. Once I go back to a psychologist and get rid of my depression, will this feeling of being "unrealistic" go away, or am I seriously going crazy, and this feeling will always be here?

You are doing the right thing by getting psychological help for the problem. Chances are the painful memory of your father dying sparked anxiety in you, making you more uneasy by the small things in life than ever before. I can understand how the unrealistic apprehension alarms you – it’s definitely something that must be dealt with, with the help of a professional, of course.
Once you go back to the psychologist, your depression is sure to be aided. However, it needs some soul and willpower on your part, and you must not let fear wrap around your common sense. These feelings are unrealistic for a reason. They are sentiments that can really rile someone up, but really the feelings are irrational and entirely in your mind. You’re not going crazy – you’re going through a difficult phase in your life that a psychologist can help you with. However, you must really be patient and block off all negativity that tries to stop you from getting well. You said it yourself – 80 percent of people are in a similar boat. Seeing as that is, there’s no reason for you to feel alone.
I wish you the best of luck.
Depression can hit anyone anytime. Your anxiety may have been a by-product of subsequent events. Many illnesses leave patients with depression, dur’ and more after a traumatic event. You can choose therapy only, if it can treat you w/o the intervention of drugs by a psychiatrist. Why some never develop depression no matter how difficult times they go through ? Genetics play some role here. I can’t tell you that your episode will ever reoccur ? I don’t believe any therapist can either. There are regular practices you can do to stay mentally healthy : positive attitude, meditation, regular exercises, martial arts, yoga…to say the least. Hope this helps

panic attacks happen to most people as a result of tense ,stress and fear ,this normally happens as an alarm to a danger -a thief for example- but the thing is that when this comes more often than usual or without that danger and you’re in a "freaking all the time phase" this could come after a stressfull problematic period and totally unpeaceful so those are the results .Stress is really close to depression ,actually can cause kind of it but not exactly the same. you just need to calm down accept reality without self judging and fight, relax ,think positively start some gym or yoga classes and find ways to "heat" stress and burn off energy .A psychologist will make you feel better really fast (and will help you getting over what really bothers you) but if you have inner strength you may deal alone with it takes longer though,it depends and can be a risk
