This is what happens to me: I will start to feel like my throat is closing up and I worry about not being able to breathe. Then my chest starts hurting because I can’t get a good breath. All the while my heart will be racing and I will be thinking that I am going to die. I try and find ways out of where I am because I feel like I am going to pass out.
What helped me was just knowing what was happening. Now I can tell myself that I am not going to die and this will be over soon. If you kinda just ride it and try to breathe, it seems to be over quicker. If my boyfriend is around I’ll have him come sit with me just to be there.
My therapist went over some breathing and visualization techniques that work for me. You breathe in slow and visualize breathing in a good, calm energy (mine just looks like water), and then breathe out slow and imagine all the anxiety coming out. The breathing by itself didn’t really help me, but the images did.
I hope this helps. I know how hard it can be. I’ve had social and general anxiety and panic disorder for years and I didn’t find out until less than a year ago. That’s why I say it helps just knowing what is going on. So far meds haven’t really helped me, but trying to live a more balanced and relaxed lifestyle have been key. Good luck to you!
Take deep breaths and tell yourself your okay.
And take some medecine if you have some to take.
Well my symptoms are like talking really fast, not really making sense when talking, or seems really hyper and then a few hours later seem tired or exhausted. Don’t worry you are not alone.
Your heart starts pounding and you either have to be somewhere on time or you go crazy. I don’t know exactly the symptoms of it even though I have it, but I do know that your heart starts pounding really bad.
Hey there. I’m sorry that you are going through this. I know it is very hard. About 12 years ago, I went through anxiety and panic for a year because of postpartum stress. The symptoms I had were that my legs felt weird, my jaws clenched shut, an out of control feeling inside like I was about to lose it, heart beating fast, diarhea. It was horrible. I went to a counselor that taught me coping techniques. One of the things that helped me was just the fact that I didn’t have some strange disease. It was JUST anxiety! I also would tell myself that everything was OK and breathe deeply. I also made sure that i got enough sleep at night and stress relief like exercise or fun. I took medicine for a short time that helped me sleep at night and had a residual effect in the daytime. Be good to yourself. I would recommend that you look into Lucinda Bassetts program for anxiety, panic and depression. You can find it online new or buy it on Ebay for alot cheaper. Blessings to you! You can get through this to the other side. You don’t have to be locked into this for life! I am free of anxiety and you can be too.
i just start to feel nervous and scared all of the sudden, like I’m about to be in the fight or flight mode. the adrenaline rushing into to me. slow down your breathing in anyway possible. for ex. breath into a paper sack or some other object of some kind that will slow down your breathing so you don’t pass out or hyperventilate.
nausea, sweating, dizziness and a feeling of dread. I have overcame a fear of bridges. I decided that when I approached a bridge I would picture dirt all the way up to the bridge, so that it wasn’t a bridge, only like a hill, and it worked. It took me several times, but it worked.
Anxiety is unnatural fear I think. The scriptures say fear is the opposite of faith. You need faith to believe the fear or anxiety you are having is not real. You put a pretty memory or scene in your mind and concentrate on it.
When this has happened to me my vision is slightly impaired and have trouble processing detailed information; also shortness of breath. The world feels unsafe.
Helps me to connect with someone I trust and talk about my feelings. If not available then I try to find a quiet place where I can breathe slowly, drink water. Read positive phrases that resonate with me — kept in my wallet.
Have you thought about learning relaxation techniques like Yoga or TM? Very helpful and positive.
I wish you well and good luck finding your solution.
You definitely should not feel alone. It is really very common. I have had problems with anxiety for years too. My symptoms are missed heartbeats, stratching my arms and neck until they would start to bleed. My arms have a weird feeling to them now and it has never cleared up. I even ended up in the hospital thinking I was having a heart attack. I have taken Paxil and atenolol for years and it really helps a lot. If the meds you are taking now are not working, you need to tell the doctor because there are a lot of different kinds you can try. I also had to remove some of the stress from my life.
Good Luck and remember, you are in company with a lot of people.
