Anxiety, Depression, ADD symptoms?

February 8th, 2010 by admin | Filed in Anxiety Attacks

Well basically I think I suffer from all 3 of these illnesses. I just want to be sure that I do have them before I go to the doctor and try to get medication, so I don’t embarrass myself by being wrong about having these illnesses. I’ll list the symptoms I’m seeing for each illness below

Anxiety- Basically have panic attacks, short breaths, hard to breath, shaking, adrenaline pumping very hard, can feel my heart pound, face turns bright red. Usually happens when I’m public speaking, talking to a girl I like, or am in an awkward/embarrassing situation

Depression- Mood swings that make me very sad. Emotional at times. Cry myself to sleep some night, not happy at all. Suicidal thoughts (almost attempted many times), feel like nothing to live for, lonely, would rather stay in my house alone then go out on a Friday night.

ADD- can’t focus, can’t study or do work at all. Education (such as math) doesn’t come easy to me at all.

So what do you all think? Do you think I suffer from all 3 of these? I don’t want to sound like I’m "assuming the worst" or anything when I talk to the doctor.

You are listing classic symptoms of anxiety and depression. The lack of focus and concentration a(inability to study) re symptoms of both anxiety and depression.

Lots of people have trouble with math, but if you get the proper treatment for anxiety and depression, you might get thru it.

    Good luck.

To start with, I doubt you have ADD. How old are you? Not being able to study or focus isn’t really a good symptom of someone that exhibits ADD. From what you’ve described, you may have a bit of depression with anxiety. If you are having suicidal thoughts, tell someone or call a friend. As for the anxiety, yes you described it pretty well. You may have some kind of social phobias or something- remember though us people on Yahoo Answers can’t diagnose you; we’re not trained professionals.

I’ve had anxiety since 2004/2005 and am actually going back to the doctors tomorrow to talk about getting a new antidepressant. I stopped taking meds back in 2007 and have just now accepted that I need to be on them. I’ve been anxious for the past year or so and trust me, it doesn’t get any better.

If you have a GP (your regular doctor you see for anything), I’d make an appointment with him/her. Talk to them about your symptoms and go from there. He or she may prescribe you something or they may send you to a psychiatrist. And don’t ever worry about embarrassing youself in front of a doctor- they’ve seen it all. From people crapping themselves to people puking on themselves. You have valid concerns and should definitely see someone!

    Good luck!

Questionairres for ADD or ADHD are at http://counsellingresource.com/quizzes/adhd/index.html (24 questions) & http://www.oneaddplace.com/add-test.php & http://addtestonline.com/ & http://psychcentral.com/ Go to : "QUIZZES AND TESTS: ADHD" & http://www.dore.com.au/ but these should be taken as an indicator only, and are by no means conclusive.

I don’t recommend any of the powerful, and addictive central nervous system stimulants. An increased incidence of abuse of cocaine, crack cocaine, crystal meth, and other amphetamines has been reported among users of Ritalin, and other amphetamine related medications, which may well predispose them to later abuse street drugs, with all the undesirable consequences involved. The only ADHD medication not in the stimulant family is Strattera, which is structurally related to the antidepressants, and carries risks, and side effects of its own.
Take at least 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or its FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. Eliminate, or minimise sugar use, replacing with xylitol, or stevia (health food stores).

Avoid artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners, preservatives, & MSG. Minimise highly processed grains, & alcohol use. I recommend: "The A.D.D. and A.D.H.D. Diet!
