Having an extremely bad anxiety attack – what should i do to stop it?
I am having very bad chest pain, my heart is pounding, and my breathing seems difficult. I am shaking too, pretty badly, not like I normally shake. (Which makes me wonder if shaking at all is normal?) But what should I do? Also what should I do if I get this bad at school? I will be going back to school tomorrow after missing so many days from being at the psych hospital. Thanks all! =]

well this is kinda ironic:) ok, when were you given any meds for the anxiety attacks? whenever they happen to my friend, the meds always work, try focusing on relaxing your entire body, that seems to help too, and if it happens in school, go to the nurse, just incase
not the greatest answer, i know, but its something! hopefully something works
this happens to me. i breath in my coat or long sleave shirt so i can keep the oxygen so i dont pass out. the worst thing you can do is sit and dwell on what is happening. like find something to do and try to take your mind off it as much as possible. dont just sit around and freak out about what is happening
i wouldnt recommend taking xanax or anything and if you do, make sure its the smallest dose possible ( i got addicted to them afew years ago)
also, i tried to eat a piece of chocolate everytime i’d get one and it works like xanax lol
you just stated that you were in a psych hospital. You are having physical symptoms that need medical attention. Please put a call into the doctor that treated you, or go to ER. There is medication they can give you to control this.
I have anxiety attacks too and take Xanax for it. It helps a lot but a doctor has to prescribe it for you,
Anxiety attacks get worse the more you think about them. If you think "I feel so horrible I’m going to throw up!…And I feel like I’m going to die right now and have a heart attack!", everything will worsen. So that’s one thing. You might want to figure out what your triggers are too. When you are calm and relaxed, think of the worst that could happen. Have a plan in your mind, so if you do have an attack, you will know that you will survive. Don’t actually act on your plan, but you’ll feel better you have one if you need it. So if you shake alot from let’s say, public speaking, tell yourself you can always find someplace to sit down if you have to. My anxiety attacks are from anticipation. One of my most uncomfortable feelings is that I get severely nauseous. Therefore, I always keep a bag with me to throw up in if I need it. I never have actually used it, but it makes me feel so much better. After a few months of using it, my anxiety has improved some.
Be creative–always have a plan or something to comfort you. And sometimes it helps to tell yourself that it’s all in your head, that you are making yourself feel this way.
Calm down and drink a glass of milk
Put your head in the freezer. You will come right out of it. Also breathing into a bag and meds.
