Help With Quitting Opiates?
Hello,
Just wondering who on this site has also dealt with addiction to the nasty things, I.E oxycontin, opium, heroin, vicodine, etc.
I am trying to get off now, am seeing a counseller and am on a program to reduce my doses, but man is it ever hard dealing with the depression and anxiety on top of all the physical symptoms like sweating, cold sweats, insomnia, night terrors when you do sleep, nausea, diarrea, heart palpitations.
Just a note, I’m not a dirt, heh, I’m a professional musician and an IT manager, just went through a peroid of life with extremely high stress and started taking them to deal with it, obviously this was the wrong choice and I developed a physical dependance.
So who else is going through this, what have you done to make things easier on your body and your mind

Hi there notauser, I’m not a dirt either, but I am a recovering opiate addict (20 years). I am proud of you for having decided to change your life. I know how difficult it is, and good for you, but you are doing things the hard way. If you are doing the reduced doses and you are having all these withdrawal symptoms, then you are dosing down too quickly. You should not have withdrawal symptoms until the very end, and at that they are supposed to be mild. That’s the whole theory behind reduced dosage. You can’t possibly live like this for a prolonged period unless you’re in a detox facility or hospital. I’m not kidding around. There is no way to deal with all these symptoms without medical intervention. I did a cold turkey and went through what you’re going through. It was 2 weeks of hell and no sleep at all. I was in detox at the time, so it was okay to be feeling lousy, and I saw the doctor every day. He was there for me for the few days I apparently lost my mind but don’t remember it. Eventually I finally slept for 5 hours, but that was after 13 days. You can’t do this and go to work or try to lead a normal life while you’re having such serious withdrawal symptoms. It just doesn’t work, and it’s even dangerous.
I strongly recommend that you speak with your counselor about how you’re feeling and the dosage reduction being too much too soon. You might do better on suboxone or subutex, but some people end up hooked on that instead. The other alternative is to decide to take a month out of your life and go through detox and rehab. It’s a safe environment where all these symptoms will be addressed with medical attention and counseling. You really do need medical intervention for what you are suffering. I can’t stress that strongly enough. Please rethink your detox plan, for your benefit and safety. You can email me if you like. I will help you any way I canand so will my husband .
Bless your heart, I checked out your question to see if my son had posted this, you could be him. Obviously you are not but same same. I dont know if you subscribe to this belief but if you are struggling and want to look at other options you could try seeing a Pranic Healer. I am one and have occasionally worked on people’s addictions and it really seems to help with cravings and giving a sense of wellbeing. If that sounds right for you, find a practitioner and ask them how it works. You could check the website pranichealing.com and call the toll free to ask any questions too. Good luck to you. My son is struggling so much but he doesn’t know I know about it which is such a hard experience not being able to help him. I myself am not sure what or how to help or approach him, I dont think he wants me to know. Sincerely – a mom
