Can stress and Panic attacks cause the feeling of somthing stuck in throat and chest?
I am a 27 year old female! During this past week I have had severe anxiety. I have every symptom in the book from chest pain to chest tightness. I went to the hospital the other night for the chest pain and they said the ekg was normal and that there was no need for an xray! Well, the chest pain has disapated, but now i have a feeling as if i have something stuck in my chest and throat! There is no pain or swelling. Can stress and panic cause this symptom? Or is this a psychogenic problem? Can constantly worring that something is seriously wrong with me cause the symptoms to be 10 times worse ? I have been to numerous doctors and not one thinks that there is anything wrong? I am desperate for some feedback!

It is unfortunate but the constant state of worry that your body is in puts it into a ‘fight or flight’ mode. This is the state that your body usually uses when threatened. The heart rate increases as does the respiratory rate. Blood pressure and certain chemicals are also increased. They all help you to deal with the adrenaline surge so that you can either run away or fight off an attacker. Whe you have the chest pain and tightness in your chest as well as the feeling of something stuck they are all a result of the chemical rebound which is causing a constriction of the bronchial tubes (airways). The best thing that I can recommend is to practice slow deep breathing exercises simular to that used in yoga. This will help to balance out not only your emotional response but keep you calmer at the onset of an attack. Talk frankly with your physician and be open to the idea about medication to help with the panic attacks as well. On a final note start keeping a journal of yur daily activities. You will start to see a pattern of triggers or causative events that set you off on the attacks. This is helpful so that you can either avoid those type of situations or change the way your deal with them. I wish you a better life. Good luck.
you pretty much answered your own question when the doctors have looked at you especially numerous ones. have u tried sex or masturbation with your stress. not trying to sound like a perv. but in extreme cases that helps. also have u thought of not giving a shit about things. maybe that helps. have u exercised. flirted with someone? anxiety just brush your shoulders off.
You thyroid gland is in your neck/throat area. If it is swollen you may have thyroid problems. If it is your thyroid then is swells because it is trying to get more iodine. Eat something with iodized salt on it (salted a normal quantity) and see if it goes away. It is does, then talk to your doctor about your thyroid. Also, you could read on the internet about thyroid symptoms and see if anything fits. There are two thyroid problems, hypothyroid (not working enough) and hyperthyroid (working too much).
I am quitting smoking and have some anxiety problem, shortness of breath, breathless and palpitations. Doc gave me light dosage of Sandoz before bedtime which does help me.

I suffer from GAD. Which is generalized anxiety disorder, Stress can aggravate your panic attacks. And then according to what your body’s fight or flight response is, you can get many different symptoms. Before I took meds I would use a little hand held solitaire game to help take my mind off the panic and help me feel like as long as I could play the game I was ok. Its your body reacting to stress.
To help with my panic I currently take Zoloft and Xanax when I can’t control it. There are a lot of meds that can be used for panic. These are the ones that work for me. Every one is different. If your doc. won’t listen to you, find another doc. You know your body too. Get a 2nd opinion.
O YES!! That is totally a panic attack!! I have had panic attacks for about 15 years now, and that is always one of the symptoms.. Tell yourself …its only in my head. Then take DEEP SLOW breaths to calm yourself down.. Also, a hot shower will help you relax. You will be fine. Ask your doctor about xanax or the generic is alprazolam. They will stop any of those symptoms if you are having a panic/anxiety attack. Thats what I take..only if needed, and it works everytime!
Sounds like a panic attack to me, especially if the doctors didn’t find anything physically wrong with you. And, yes, contantly worrying will make it worse.
When I start to have a panic attack, I think of something that makes me happy – a special event or whatever – to get my mind off the panic attack. Thinking happy thoughts works for me.
